Agen to Bordeaux

It is Easter morning and we have just left Agen on a train for Bordeaux. I went to a French, African, Live Band, Evangelical Easter service this morning, that was in our hotel, and absolutely loved it! Although I don’t speak French, I could mostly tell what was being said. It was fantastic and I felt very blessed to be there. Now we are on a train about to arrive in Bordeaux.

Bordeaux is a port city on the Garonne River and it is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever been to! Its inhabitants are called “Bordelais” (for men) or “Bordelaises” (women).

The city’s nicknames are “La perle d’Aquitaine” (The Pearl of Aquitaine), and “La Belle Endormie” (Sleeping Beauty) in reference to the old center which had black walls due to pollution. Nowadays, this is not the case. In fact, a part of the city, Le Port de La Lune, was almost completely renovated and the buildings are white, bright and clean. People are always walking around, sunning in the gardens and drinking in the squares. We fell in love with the city.

Bordeaux is the world’s major wine industry capital. the wine economy in the metro area takes in 14.5 billion euros each year. Bordeaux wine has been produced in the region since the 8th century. I did a wine tasting of several delicious wines from the area and drank a few in the evenings.

This is definitely one of the stars of our trip so far! We had such an amazing, amazing time!

Now we are off to the Loire region to see the castles!!
